| The Garden of Hope and Courage (GOHAC) is a 2.5 acre healing sanctuary and memorial for Jan Emfield who passed away from breast cancer in 1994. After 13 years of fundraising, research and development, the Garden officially opened October 26, 2006 on the Naples Community Hospital Campus. The garden consists of a formal garden, children’s garden, an open air social pavilion, and holds a one-acre lake as its centerpiece | ||||

It is inspired by Jan and the great courage of women faced with breast cancer, as well as all whose lives have been touched by this horrific disease. There is a tremendous need on every hospital campus for such a place because hope, courage and simply taking the time for quiet reflection and prayer are all so critical in the healing process, profoundly affecting the mind, body and soul. By blending water, plants, sculpture and the natural topography of the earth into a therapeutic retreat, the garden offers patients a chance to reduce their negative emotions and stress. The GOHAC will serve as a living testament to courage, compassion, hope and love.
The Garden of Hope and Courage (GOHAC) is a 501© 3 non-profit organization incorporated in May, 1995. Our mission was to begin research and development of a healing garden with the intention of creating a garden that could ultimately be replicated in cities across the United States of America. The initial garden is located near the Lutgert Cancer Pavilion on the Naples Community Hospital Campus in Naples, Florida. |

After 12 years of fundraising, research and development, the GOHAC had a vision of building gardens on hospital campuses across the country. On April 12, 2005, Richard D'Amico, CEO of D’Amico & Partners and tri-founders of Tommy Bahama; lifetime friend Bob Emfield, Tony Margolis and Lucio Dalla Gasperina, officially introduced the first GARDEN OF HOPE AND COURAGE to the Naples Community at a ritual ground breaking. The garden will be completed in Spring 2006.
| D’Amico & Partners, through its operating companies and employees, Campiello, D'Amico Cucina, D'Amico & Sons, and Cafe Lurcat, have adopted the GOHAC as its primary charity and have been raising funds for the project through wine dinners and golf tournaments since 1994. For its part, Tommy Bahama has made a company wide commitment to the GOHAC. Since 1996, Tommy Bahama has raised significant funds for the project by donating a percentage of the sale of designated items from their apparel and accessory collections. | ||||
| Each season select items - some specially designed for the project - are chosen as GOHAC styles. In 2004, Tommy Bahama hosted the first annual Tommy Bahama Challenge PGA Tour event in Scottsdale, Arizona giving a percentage of tournament proceeds to the GOHAC. Also introduced is The Little Black Dress Womens Fund Raiser. This event to be held in February 2011. And another new and exciting event added just recently is the Italian Campiello Culniary Cruise.
